A tactic a week for turning information into action

Since its launch in December, Tactical Tech's documentary film, 10 tactics for turning information into action, has been screened at 15 global events. These screenings are continuing around the world in January. Those attending or hosting 10 tactics screenings are the first people to receive copies of the 10 Tactics pack. In the meantime, Tactical Tech are slowly releasing the content from this project online by featuring one tactic per week.
This weeks featured tactic is 'No one is listening: amplify personal stories'. It looks at how bringing people's personal stories to the front of info-activism work is a tactic that can be used to ensure the experiences of people affected by an issue are not ignored. To highlight this tactic the 10 tactics film includes stories from: WomensNet in South Africa, who have used digital storytelling to support women to tell their stories of surviving violence; the Blank Noise collaborative blog initiative, which combines personal storytelling with public actions to highlight sexual harassment in India; and an Ajeda-Ka/ WITNESS film project, "A Duty to Protect", which tells the personal stories of child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The fold-out tactic card included in the 10 tactics pack features useful tips, tricks and tools to support your own rights advocacy work. The card also includes an in-depth case study that shows how the tactic has been applied for rights advocacy in a creative way. By interviewing campaigners involved in the action, this case study reveals what tools were used, resources were needed and what impact the action had. This weeks tactic card features a campaign implemented by a young Saudi artist, Areej Khan, who wanted to draw attention to laws that ban women from driving in Saudi Arabia. Her campaign, We the Women, asks women to respond to the question. “To drive or not to drive?” by writing their answers on stickers and posting them in public places. The campaign has allowed women to creatively start a public conversation about their needs, rights and the relevance of laws that prevent them from driving.
